Q. I am currently in college and wanting to become a law enforcement officer the K-9 aspect of law enforcement interests but Im not sure how I could get to this is there any special schools I could attend to look good on a resume or this a position you can only obtain over a period of time like a rank ex: sgt or detective

While K-9 is a great assignment, like all specialties, you first serve as a patrol officer, usually for a minimum of two years, before you go to a specialty such as motors, investigations, k-9's, etc. Someone who does their homework on how to train and care for these special animals will always have the advantage in selections for such an assignment. Although you might want to become involved with k-9's right away, patrol work gives you the basic skills to excel in all specialty assignments.
